Alan I. Rubenstein
90, of Indianapolis, passed away on February 23, 2015. He was born July 16, 1924 to Joe and Lillian Rubenstein. He graduated from Senn High School in Chicago, Illinois. Alan proudly served in the U.S. Army/ Airforce in the 492 Squadron in the China Burma India Theater during WWII. Alan was a long time member of Etz Chaim.
He married his sweetheart, Sally Franco, on September 8, 1946. In 1957, in partnership with his brother-in-law, Monroe Alt, he founded Crown Plastic Cover Company. Later in 1971, together with Sally and his sons, Alan owned and operated Allan's Jewelry and Loan in Anderson, Indiana.
He is survived by his sister, Marilyn Arnove; his children, Jerry (Pam) and Steven (Carolyn) Rubenstein, and Robin (Rick) Weiss; grandchildren, Joe (Jen) and Alan Rubenstein, and Haley and Alayna Weiss; great-grandchildren, Alex (Morey) and Maggie Rubenstein; several nieces and nephews; and his much beloved canine companion, Max. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Sally; and brother, Earl Rubenstein.
Funeral services will be held at the Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Rd, on Sunday, March 1st at 2:30 PM. Burial will follow in Etz Chaim Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choosing in lieu of flowers.
