Arlene Rosemarie (Andert) Simala,
80, passed away peacefully at Clearvista Health Campus in Indianapolis early Sunday morning, October 2, 2016.
Arlene is survived by her two children, Jonelle (Steven) Lesniak and Jon R. (Gayle) Simala; three granddaughters, Alexandra Lesniak, Rachel Allgood and Samantha Allgood; and ex-husband, John Simala.
Arlene was born March 18, 1936 to Frank and Helen Andert (deceased) in South Bend, Indiana.
Arlene was an active mother in both her children's lives and a member of St. Jude Parish, Knights of Columbus Women. She loved her dogs and cats and reading.
Arlene made a lifelong career caring for the health of others; after graduating from St. Mary's College, she began her nursing career at South Bend St. Joseph Hospital. After taking some time to stay at home with her children, she returned to nursing at Community Osteopathic Hospital and then Hamilton Grove. Once her children were grown, Arlene attended IUSB to attain a Masters of Counseling, enabling her to be an instructor at Ivy Tech Community College. She enjoyed teaching there until two years ago.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 15th at the Holy Family Church, 56405 Mayflower Rd., South Bend, IN 46619. Guests may visit in the church's Gathering Room at 9:30 AM until a mass at 10 AM.
