Arnold "Arne" J. Esbin, 60, of Carmel, IN, passed away on January 5, 2015. He was born December 23, 1954 in Washington D.C., the son of Alvin and Esther Esbin. Arne is survived by his mother, Esther Esbin; wife, Nina Flamme Esbin; sons, David (Kate) Esbin, Jordan Esbin, and Steven Esbin; sisters, Stephanie (Charles) Sztanksi and Hallie (Brant) Rosen; sister-in-law, Nancy Flamme; aunts, Norma Berman, and Deanna (Jerry) Levy; cousins, Andrew (Natalie) Berman, Amy (Ron) Frederick, Hilary (Richard) Chenel and Nancy (David) Novack; and nephews, Gabriel Rosen, Jonah Rosen, and Michael Sztanski.
Arne grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey and graduated from Teaneck High School in 1973. He was infamous for pranking and teasing those whom he loved the most. As a kid he enjoyed making his sisters, parents and friends laugh. His antics continued throughout his "adulthood".
Arne attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and graduated in 1977. At Miami, Arne met a good-looking neighbor who was willing to fill-in as his euchre partner. She captured his heart and eventually became his bride, Nina. Arne and Nina moved to California, with a quick stint in Minnesota, before settling in Nina's hometown, Indianapolis. Arne and Nina learned to sail at Geist Reservoir in Indianapolis and they shared their passion with family and friends every summer.
Arne worked as an insurance agent with MetLife and Prudential, and later became an independent insurance agent and financial planner.
Arne enjoyed coaching his sons' soccer teams, traveling with friends and family, watching Steve play baseball, and sailing his "Dutch Doggs Too" sailboat in Holland, Michigan. He enjoyed collecting and learning about antique radios. He was very proud to have his prized radios recently featured in the New York Times online store and created a website devoted to Jackson Bell radios, the first of its kind. He also made an annual pilgrimage with his father, Al, to the Buster Keaton Damfino Convention.
Arne was most proud of his three sons, all of whom graduated from college, started successful careers and are in wonderful loving relationships. He said that attending Dave and Kate's wedding in October 2014 was one of the happiest moments of his life.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Road, Zionsville, IN at 3 p.m. Friends may visit from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
