Arthur James Palmer

February 27, 1929 — November 18, 2016

Arthur "Art" James Palmer

87, of Whitestown, Indiana, passed away November 18, 2016 after complications from surgery. Art was born on February 27, 1929 in Buffalo, New York to Samuel and Alice Palmer (O'Neill). He served bravely in the Navy during the Korean War. Art retired in 1986 after 34 years of dedicated service as a Finance/Accounting Executive for Union Carbide Corporation. In addition to having a successful career, he was an active member and volunteer for Special Olympics, Salvation Army and The Gideon's. Not being content with retirement, he returned to work using his finance expertise and love of service to others, while working at Walnut Hill Community Church. The next phase of his life included enjoying retirement in The Villages, Florida. He spent his free time golfing, while working part-time in a grocery store and became known as the "the singing cashier".

He was given the gift of life and now he has to give it back. He tried to make his life one of service. He loved people and only lived on this earth by the grace of God. He served the Lord Jesus Christ on this earth and hoped to spend eternity with him in heaven. Mission accomplished.

Art is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Elaine Palmer; four children, Christine, Gregory, Mark, Marsha; ten grandchildren and two nieces.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at A.R.N. Funeral & Cremation Services 11411 North Michigan Road Zionsville, Indiana 46077. Viewing hours are from 4-6pm with a service from 6-7pm. Interment will be at Elmlawn Cemetery, Buffalo, New York.

Memorial contributions may be made to Compassion International, P. O. Box 65000, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80962-5000 or Gideons International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214.

Art would like to let you know that his work here is done. He received a call, a sort of an offer he couldn't refuse for an appointment from which he will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a long time. His new mission takes him to a wonderful place where he can continue to be of service to others while he golfs, bowls and uses his pocket calculator until his heart's content.
