Barbara Lois Roop Baptist
Born in Chicago on Christmas morning, 1929, Barb was a gift to all who knew her. A member of Tri Delta sorority at Beloit College, she graduated in 1952. It was there that she met her best friend and husband, George "Babe" Baptist. They married, moved to St. Charles, and later to Northbrook, IL where Barb fulfilled her greatest calling- that of wife and mother.
Barb's Christian faith was central to her life, she served as an Elder at the Village Church in Northbrook, & was a member of Church of the Palms in Sarasota. She was a PEO, belonged to Friendship Force, and volunteered at SPARCC (a women's crisis center).
Barb was preceded in death by her brother, Robert (Phyllis) Roop; and is survived by her beloved husband; three daughters, Wendy (John) VanderZee, Debbie (Jim) Maakestad, and Stacie Baptist; the grandchildren she adored, Jenny (Andrew) Singleton, Sarah (Spencer) McKenney, Robbie (Ashley) Maakestad, and Will Maakestad; and the light of her life, her great-granddaughter, Maddie Singleton.
Memorial services will be held in Indianapolis on March 30, at 2:00 pm at Castleview Baptist Church, and in Sarasota on April 12 at 1:30 pm at Bay Village.
