Barbara Lee Vance Piper

March 15, 1961 — June 11, 2018

Barbara Lee Vance Piper

57, of Indianapolis, passed away on June 11, 2018. She was born in Indianapolis, IN on March 15, 1961 to the late Keith and Bertha Huffman. Barb was a graduate of Speedway High School and went on to receive her degree in Social Work from Indiana University. She started her career in the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration and the federal Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) where she worked for over 22 years.

Later, she served as a senior manager in the Indianapolis office of Myers & Stauffer LC for more than 11 years. Barb worked tirelessly to be an expert in her field and to provide the highest quality service. She also mentored many in her company who learned not only from her expertise but from her example and friendship. Her colleagues learned from her that, "working hard and doing a great job doesn't mean we can't have fun too."

The first thing everyone noticed about Barb was her smile. She was always out to help people and change the world. In addition to donating school supplies, she devoted time to collecting winter hats and gloves for inner city elementary kids. Barb was instrumental in forming a veteran's organization, Veterans Industries and Arts (VIA) to help at-risk veterans. Barb's deep care and concern for others was very apparent in all she did.

Barb is survived by her husband, Jeff Piper; sons, Justin Vance and Samuel Piper; and sisters, Joan Shafer and Sandra (Doug) Hostrawser. She was preceded in death by her brother, David Huffman.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 22nd at 11 AM at Speedway Christian Church, 5110 West 14th Street, Speedway, IN 46214 where Barb had been a lifelong member. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Speedway Christian Church.
