Barbara Sabel
78 years of age, passed away on June 18, 2017 at Carmel Care Center.
Barbara was born in Fredonia, KY. She was one of the first graduating classes of registered nurses from the University of Evansville. She worked as a nurse for many years both in Evansville, Indianapolis, and California. After obtaining her nursing license, she joined the Army Nursing Corp in 1963. She trained at Fort Sam Houston in Texas and Fort Benning in Georgia where she worked as a pediatric nurse just before the start of the Vietnam War. During her time in the Army, she reached the rank of First Lieutenant. She was a member of Village Park Bible Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, The Planetary Society and in her younger years she raced a rail dragster. Barbara's greatest joy was her family.
She is survived by her former husband, Nathan W. Sabel; daughters, Ann Marie (David) Freitas of California, Lee Ellen (Darren) Meiss of Carmel; brothers, Eddie Wright and Johnny (Julie) Wright and grandchildren, Ryan Freitas and Savannah, Zane and Toby Meiss; nieces, Carolyn Wynn and Tina Tomes. She was preceded in death by her brother, George Wright.
Barbara enjoyed spending time with her daughter's friends, the Ya Ya's, and they shared many fond memories over the years.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at ARN Funeral and Cremation Services, 11411 N. Michigan Road, Zionsville, IN 46077 from 2 - 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carmel Care Center, 118 Medical Drive, Carmel, IN 46032.
