Barbara Mae (Bentley) Weiford

January 3, 1947 — March 3, 2023

Huntington

BARBARA MAE BENTLEY WEIFORD went to be with her lord and savior on Friday, March 3, 2023, while being treated at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Barb was born in Huntington, Indiana, on January 3, 1947, and graduated from Huntington High School in 1965.  She met the love of her life, Hervey P. Weiford, shortly afterwards and they were married on April 18, 1970, and celebrated 52+ years of love and devotion.

Barb was dedicated to her church, her family, and her friends.  She was quick to offer assistance to those in need and always supported others by giving her time and energy generously.  Barb loved music and played the piano, organ and led the handbell chorus at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.   She was also on the St. Matthews House Board of Directors, volunteered regularly at the church food bank and sang in the church choir.

Barb enjoyed sewing handmade projects and gifts for friends, family and others who could benefit from a bit of caring.  An avid word, number and jig saw puzzle-solver, she also enjoyed walking, swimming, and vacationing with friends and family.  Barb was always available for a game of cards, dominoes, or any board games that her family wanted to play.

Barb was survived by her beloved family: husband, Hervey, Huntington; daughter Kelley Weiford Ahlersmeyer (Nick); grandson Elliott Marley Ahlersmeyer, Ft. Wayne; stepdaughter Danica Weiford Winter (Pete), Tallahassee, FL; and stepdaughter Deborah Weiford Raynes, Tacoma, WA.  She was preceded in death by her parents Leslie and Thelma Bentley and sister Judy Bentley Pasco.

There will be a celebration of life service at St. Matthews Lutheran Church,  2305 Goshen Road, Ft. Wayne, IN 46808, at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 11, 2023.  An hour of visitation with the family will begin at 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.   A private interment will be performed at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital or Humane Ft. Wayne animal shelter.
