Bella Pekar
92, Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away in Indianapolis on Friday, December 20, 2013 surrounded by her family. Bella was born on August 12th, 1921 in Vinnitsa, Ukraine to Joseph and Leah Korchmar. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ilya Pekar, and daughter, Assia Fox. Bella is survived by her sister, Clara (Dmitri) Bogomolny of Boston, MA; son, Yefrem (Lina) Pekar of Carmel, IN; grandchildren, Irene Fox (Michael Voskoboynik) of Indianapolis, IN, Eugene (Miroslava) Fox of Vernon Hills, IL, Yakov Pekar of Chicago, IL, Elizabeth Pekar of Carmel, IN; and six great-grandchildren.
Bella worked as a pediatrician for over 40 years while she lived in the Ukraine. She immigrated to Indianapolis at age 70 and learned English in order to become a United States citizen. She brought joy to everyone around her and will be greatly missed for her selfless, loving, and caring nature.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 23rd at the Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 N. Michigan Rd. at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Congregation Beth-El Zedeck North Cemetery.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Hooverwood Nursing Home and of Home Services Unlimited.
