Bernard Alphonse Ampe,
81 of Kokomo passed away December 22, 2015. He was born in Cadott, Wisconsin on May 13, 1934 to Alphonse and Elsie Ampe. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. Bernie was a graduate of Miami University of Ohio. He owned and operated Ampe Realty Management, Inc. for over 30 years. He also co-owned and operated S.A.S. Health Food stores in Kokomo, Muncie and West Lafayette, IN for over 40 years.
Bernie was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Kokomo Elks Lodge, Rotary Club, served as Howard County Commissioner, and was a member of the Howard County Library Board.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends and spending time at the lake. Bernie was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed being active with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed a good party and felt that life was to be celebrated.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia; daughters, Jennifer (David) DuBow of Indianapolis, Susan (Jim) Paulsen of Lafayette, and Kathy (Mike) Hower of Fishers; grandchildren, Nathan DuBow, Kaitlyn, Maddi and Mackenzie Paulsen, and Kylie (James) Houck; brother, Leonard Ampe of New Mexico; and sisters, Lorraine Abler of Appleton, WI and Mary Jane Kuhn of Grand Rapids, WI. Bernie was preceded in death by his brother, Richard.
In celebration of Bernie's life, a memorial service will be held Sunday, December 27th at 3:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church. A cocktail reception will immediately follow at Pastarrific Ristorante Italiano.
