Bernerd Bogar, 85 years old, passed away October 22, 2017. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 19, 1932 to the late Armin and Sophie Bogar.He graduated from Glenville High School in 1950, worked in a Cleveland brewery for three years, then served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. While in the army, stationed near the Arctic Circle, Bernie decided a college education would better serve him than returning to the brewery.
Bernie attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he received an undergraduate degree. He completed graduate school at Indiana University and earned a Ph.D. in economics. In 1966, Bernie accepted a faculty position at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis. He retired from IUPUI in 1996. Bernie testified as an economics expert in many cases in state and federal Indiana courts. He authored the first set of Indiana Child Support Guidelines.
Bernerd is survived by his wife, Carolyn Rader Bogar; his son, Andrew J. (Renee) Bogar; daughter, Sydney L. Bogar Draper and step-son, Aaron M. Rader, Former-wife, Eva S. Bogar
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Geraldine Elconin and Verne Weinbaum and his brothers, Arthur and Donald Bogar. He has numerous nieces and nephews, including a great-nephew, Jakob L. Pierce.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2017; 2:00 PM, at Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, 6501 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260, of which he was a member. Burial will follow in IHC South Cemetery.
