Betty Nahmias Calderon, a lifelong resident of Indiana, died on November 17, 2024. Betty was the baby of the family that included her four brothers: Morris "Amos" Nahmias, Joe Nahmias, Aaron "Harry" Nahmias, and Herman Nahmias, and two sisters, Lena "Lee" Cohen and Sophie "Sylvia" Schwartz. Betty graduated from Manuel High School in 1948. Before marrying Irving ""Ernie" Calderon in 1950, Betty helped her brothers in their business Atlas Distribution.
She and Ernie were long-time Congregation Beth-El Zedeck and Etz Chaim Sephardic Congregation members. Betty was also a member of Hadassah and the National Council of Jewish Women. Betty enjoyed playing golf at Broadmoor Country Club and also in Florida where she and Ernie spent the winter months. Betty and Ernie traveled extensively and saw much of the world. She also enjoyed playing mahjong, bowling in leagues, following sports, especially the Pacers, Colts, IU, and anything with golf, was an avid reader and was always interested in current events.
Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ernie, who died in 2012, and all of her siblings. She is survived by her loving children, Stephen (Marlene), Howard, Carolyn( Robert Jahn), and Fran (David Fields); grandchildren Eric Calderon, Robbie Calderon (Alizee Malnoe), Gayle Calderon (Tom Coughlin), Elizabeth Calderon, Andrea Calderon (Kyle Smallegan), William (Allison) Calderon, Ellyssa Calderon, Nicole McAtee (Jon Hunt), Chelle Goldberg, Bruce (Anna) Goldberg, Andrea Fields, Angela (Ryan) Bond; great-grandchildren Blake, Sydney, River, Elwood, Oliver, Esi and Jackson, and nieces, nephews and numerous friends who will deeply miss her.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers from Senior Home Companions who cared for Betty in the last few years.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024, at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Funeral Home, 11411 N. Michigan Road. Burial will be in Beth-El Zedeck North Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Congregation Beth-El Zedeck, Etz Chaim, Tunnels to Towers, or a charity of your choice.
Friends may visit with the family following the burial at Jackson's Grant Clubhouse, 1134 Frenzel Parkway, Carmel, IN 46032 until 8 PM. There will be a minyon at 6:30 PM.
