Bozidar Stoshitch passed away Monday, July 3rd, just two weeks shy of his 75th wedding anniversary and a few months shy of his one hundredth birthday. He was a loving husband to his wife, Mamie, and father to his daughters, Diana and Vida, who both passed away in 2014.
Boz, as he was known to his friends and family, was the son of Serbian immigrants and excelled at both football and baseball at Arsenal tech and then at Indiana University where he was scouted by the Cleveland Indians, but chose to join the army and serve as an officer in World War II.
When he returned home from the war to his young wife, he worked as a custom home builder. He built many homes, including the one he raised his family in and lived in for over 50 years. He eventually worked for Geupel-DeMars Construction Company, where he worked as an estimator/construction manager. Boz was a diligent and thorough worker, considering quality work as key to his personal and professional reputation. He was involved in the construction of the City Market, the Natatorium at IUPUI, and right before he retired, the Indianapolis zoo.
When he retired, he and his wife traveled extensively in Europe and spent their winters in Florida playing golf. He rarely watched the "boob tube" unless it was sports. He mostly watched golf or tennis but his favorite was baseball of course. He was an avid gardener, growing his vegetable gardens by seed every year. He loved to meet new people and people were drawn to him, with his "movie star good looks". Even at 99 years old, he still had many good friends of all ages who visited he and his wife often.
Boz is survived by his dear wife, Mamie; granddaughters; Amy (Gregg) Kendall and Anne (Rick) Ward; grandsons; Bo (Melissa) Bailey and Nick (Karen) Bailey; nephew, Bill Ellison; nieces, Elizabeth Ellison and Mary Ellison; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Floral Park Cemetery at 12 PM on Thursday, July 13th. Friends are welcome to visit from 11 AM until the time of the service. A memorial meal will be held at Saint Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church, 7855 Marsh Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46278 following the service.
