Charles H. Redish,
89, of Indianapolis passed away November 21, 2015. Charles was born in Newark, New Jersey to Morris and Gussie Redish. He served honorably in the Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1945. He went on to further his education and attended Rutgers University for pre-dental schooling and later graduated from Indiana School of Dentistry in 1951. Charles participated in an oral surgery internship at the hospital for joint disease in New York and went on to a residency at the Metropolitan Hospital in New York. Charles received his Masters degree from the Graduate School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Charles long list of accomplishments includes 33 years as an associate professor of oral surgery at the IU School of Dentistry; he was a practicing oral surgeon in Indianapolis for 51 years, and also a dental consultant to the Eli Lilly Corp for 15 years. In the past, he served as the president of the Indiana Dental Society as well as the Great Lakes Society of Oral Surgery. He was also a diplomat of the American Board of Oral Surgeons.
Charles was a proud member of The American Society of Oral Surgeons, the American College of Dentists, Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, and a board member of the Broadmoor Country Club.
Charles was known for his kind heart and incredible love and interest in everyone he met. He had a shining personality that was accompanied by the gift of storytelling and a love of fishing. Charles' love for his family was infinite. He was known to be a loyal man and generous head of his family.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Leah (Burack) Redish, his two sons, Dr. Gregory and Dr. Martin, daughters-in-law Maureen and Jenny as well as five grandsons, Clifford, David, Jake, Jeffery, and Matthew.
Services will be held at Crown Hill's Peace Chapel, 700 West 38th Street in Indianapolis, on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 2:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements entrusted to Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary.
