Chester Tyrone Hackett

January 26, 1946 — June 2, 2019

Chester Tyrone Hackett, known to friends as “Ty”, passed away on June 2, 2019, at the age of 73. Ty was born January 26, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA to Chester Edwin Hackett and Mary Pauline Baker Hackett. He attended Howe High School in Indianapolis and later Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College in Tifton, GA. During his years of higher education, Ty also served in the Georgia National Guard. Ty excelled in landscape design and agricultural planning, working for and later retiring from Jenkins Landscaping.

Ty was a man of strong faith and action, regularly giving his time and effort in support of his local community and the ventricular assist device (VAD) community, providing comfort, guidance, and always a smile to his fellow VAD patients. Ty’s strength and resilience is highlighted by his VAD experience, becoming one of the longest surviving VAD patients at over 8 years.

Ty was an avid sports fan and Football season will not be the same without his fabulous Chili, cheese ball and homemade snack mix. After a good meal, he would always smile in contentment, pat his belly and ask, “What’s my topper (dessert)?” He will be missed dearly by the communities he supported and his many friends and family.

Ty is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Lemons Oliver Hackett; former wife and dear friend, Linda Lippa Hackett and their two sons, Matthew (Kristen) Hackett and Benjamin Hackett; grandchildren, Matthew and Alice Hackett; stepsons, Stephen (Becky) Oliver and John (Leigh Ann) Oliver; step-grandchildren, Justin (Abbey) Oliver, Jonathan Oliver, Will Oliver, and Sydney Oliver; and step-great-grandchildren, Kyran, Ellery and Emery.

An Intimate Celebration of Life including family and friends will take place in the weeks to come. Following Ty’s wishes, his sons, Matthew and Ben, will scatter his ashes at his favorite fishing spots in his adopted state of Florida. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
