Dale Marlene Smulyan Friedlander
Lifelong resident of Indianapolis passed away suddenly on August 10, 2024, at the age of 80. Dale was born on November 5, 1943, to the late Samuel and Natalie Smulyan. A graduate of Shortridge High School, she attended the University of Miami and graduated from Indiana University. Dale was active in her communities - she was a member of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck, Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority, a life member of Hadassah and member of Broadmoor Country Club, Crooked Stick Golf Club and Old Marsh Golf Club. Dale was an accomplished golfer, winning club championships routinely over 4 decades, earning the respect and admiration from her fellow players. Beyond her athletic ability, Dale was also a fierce poker player, besting her opponents with her ability to read both them and the cards. Above all, Dale was loved and adored by her family and countless friends. She could talk to anyone and made everyone she met feel welcomed and loved. To know her was to love her and she will live on in our hearts forever.
She is survived by her daughter Amy Friedlander Hoffman (Todd); brothers Jeff Smulyan (Heather) and Jim Smulyan; grandchildren Avery and Sophie Hoffman; nieces and nephew, Cari Smulyan, Samantha Smulyan and Brad Smulyan (Leslie). Her son David preceded her in death.
In Dale’s memory, memorial contributions may be made to Uncle Davey’s Cabin, ℅ Congregation Beth-El Zedeck, 600 West 70th Street, Indianapolis IN 46260.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at 11:00 am at Congregation Beth-El Zedeck. Burial will follow at Beth-El Zedeck North Cemetery.
