David Sterling Clifford, 52 of Carmel, IN passed away March 7, 2012 surrounded by his loving family and friends.
David graduated from Carmel High School in 1978 and Anderson University, 1982 with a B.S. in Business Administration. He was a member of the Finance & Advisory Board of Pace University Lubin School of Business, New York City Chapter, the National Association of Theater Owners (NATO), and the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). In 1998 he was an Honoree of the Beta Gamma Sigma Society Award for Business Leadership and Excellence.
David began his professional career in the investment banking business and went on to serve over 20 years in the motion picture industry. He served as the CFO of Cobb Theatres, Inc., then EVP & CFO of Crown Theatres, L.P. where he was an active participant in managing every aspect of the company's growth through acquisitions and strategic planning. His career concluded in November 2010 at which time he served as President and CEO of Trademark Cinemas.
David was a proud Carmel Greyhound Alumnus and went on to play four years of college football at Anderson. The love of football continued throughout his life, devoting 18 years to coaching youth football. He was a fixture on the field and was a true inspiration to all who played for him.
David was an athlete his entire life. In addition to football, he loved mountain biking, skiing and his adventures took him all over the world. David loved being with his family and friends. Anyone who came into contact with David was profoundly affected by his gregarious personality and love for life. He was a force beyond recognition.
David courageously battled ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) for the past 18 months. During this time, he lived every day to the fullest maintaining his sense of humor and zest for life. He was grateful to the CHS Coaching staff along with the Carmel Football Alumni Club for the remarkable support they gave him and his family. His gratitude extends to the ALSA, Indiana Chapter, and his family and friends who unconditionally supported and cared for him during this time.
David is survived by his loving wife, Virginia "Gigi"; children, Benjamin David Clifford, Alexander John Clifford, Samuel Sterling Clifford, Jesse Thornton Clifford and Emma O'Neil Coutermash. David was so very proud of the children and the joy they gave him. He leaves behind his siblings, Curtis (Kim), Rogers (Connie), Douglas (Lisa), and Leslie (Ken) Robinson; Uncle Drew (Becky)Rogers, many nieces and nephews in the Clifford, Bowman and Tuthill families; Grandmother Betty Rogers Canaday and parents, Ron and Judi Clifford.
Visitation will be held at the Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Road, on March 23, 2012 from 4-8 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at the same location, March 24, 2012 at 11 AM.
