March 29, 1986 — November 5, 2023
Indianapolis
Dr. Derek Paul Logsdon, 37, passed away suddenly at home in Indianapolis, IN, on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023.
He is survived by his much-loved wife of ten years, Amber; and their three children, Ivy, age 8; Amos, age 5; and Lilah, age 5; his parents, Paul and Kay Logsdon; his in-laws, Tom and Kathy Degenhart; his sister, Dana Mason; his grandfather, Troy Compton; and a number of in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He also leaves a multitude of aunts, uncles, and extended family and friends who are devastated at this loss.
He graduated from Evangel University in his hometown of Springfield, MO, in 2008. He moved to Indianapolis to begin his PhD at the Indiana University School of Medicine in August 2012, where Amber promptly called “dibs.” They were married in August 2013. After graduating in 2018, he considered staying in academia and research, but instead followed the money into industry at Lilly thanks to some surprise twins. But he loved research and Amber always told him he would have been an incredible teacher - he frequently took over the kitchen whiteboard over breakfast in order to draw and explain things to Ivy, Amos, and Lilah.
He was known for his 6 ft. 8 in. height, his sense of humor, and his love of music. Many people looked forward to Evangel’s music productions, where Derek would be at the center of the back row, wearing Christmas moose ears and towering even higher above his classmates.
