Donald Arthur Dean, DDS
74, Greenwood, entered the rest of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 28, 2012. Don was born on March, 25, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio.
He attended Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio, graduating in 1955. At Fairmont Don was involved in Youth For Christ, led several Bible studies, and met his future wife Judy.
Don attended Manchester College, North Manchester Indiana, graduating in 1959. He paid for his own education by a combination of academic scholarships, and working up to three jobs at one time. He also found time to hitchhike once a month to Dayton, Ohio, in order to see his future bride Judy.
Don and Judy married on August 1, 1959. While starting their young family, Judy finished Nursing School and Don entered Dental School at Ohio State University, graduating in 1965. He completed his Master's Degree in Dentistry in 1968 at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. After several years and different locations practicing dentistry for the Veterans Administration, Don started his own practice in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1971. Don saw his dental practice not as his vocation, but as his opportunity for ministry. He demonstrated God's love, compassion and kindness to many patients in his over 40 years worth of practice, which included both his office and hospital and home visits.
Don was a long-time member of Southport Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, was involved in several committees and taught Adult Sunday School classes faithfully for years.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Judy, his five loving children and their spouses Mark(Vicky) Dean, Jeff(Brenda) Dean, Scott(Laurel) Dean, Beth(Scott)Kane, John(Amy)Dean, and 16 Grandchildren, for whom their Granddad was a great treasure and delight.
He is also survived by two brothers, Roger Dean (Carolyn) and Jim Dean,(Linda) and two sisters, Pat Collins (John Paul) and Dorothy Ward. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Francis Dean, and his sister, Lois DeMint..
Memorial service will begin Saturday, March 31st at 10:00 AM, at Southport Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to Southport Presbyterian Church, Missions Committee.
