Donald Eugene Gillette
Age 89, of Rossville, Indiana and formerly of Elwood, passed away on October 6, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. He was born April 22, 1923. He was the only Child of Kenneth and Flossie (Umbenhower) Gillette.
Survivors include his wife, Devona "Donna" Mullins Gillette, whom he married September 13, 1971; daughters, Bernadette (Don) Free and Angelia (Wayne) Stambaugh both of York, PA; step-sons, Bradley White (Sharon) and Brian White (Cathy) both of Rossville; fifteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born in Chariton, Iowa, Don was raised in Pennsylvania and served in the Army Air Corp from February 1943 to October 1945. He lived in California more than thirty years, working in real estate as well as restaurant management until 1978 when disability forced his retirement from that profession. Subsequently, he worked into his eighties at a job he loved, as a driver for several auto dealerships in California, then in Indiana, where he resided since 1990. Don loved to play his harmonicas and had a passion for playing cards.
He attended Trinity Wesleyan Church in Tipton and Eastside Assembly of God in Lafayette. A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at Eastside Assembly of God, 6121 East 50 South, Lafayette, IN. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011, Washington DC, 20090-6011. Burial will be held at a later date in Tipton, Indiana.
