Doris Marie Mitchell Funke Alexander

90, passed away on December 10, 2014, at Westside Garden Plaza where she had lived since March. She was born on March 7, 1924, in Smithville, Indiana, the first-born child of Gilbert and Ruth Shields Mitchell. Doris is survived by daughters, Kathy Scales Brown (David) of Zionsville, IN and Karen O'Brien of Indianapolis, IN; and grandchildren, Todd Scales (Leigh Ann Akard) of Zionsville, IN and Tina Partridge (Mark) of Omaha, NB; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Lowry and Megan Lowry of Omaha, NB; brother, William Mitchell (Juanita) of Speedway, IN; sister, Joan Hillenburg (Darrell) of Bloomington, IN; brother, David Mitchell (Glenda) of Greenwood, IN; brother, Dwight Mitchell of Bloomington, IN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Frederick Richard Funke, Jr who she married on July 3, 1948; and two sisters, Patricia Eller of Bloomington, IN and Elizabeth Sue Masters of Indianapolis, IN.

Although she enjoyed working in a bank and insurance agency after graduation from Smithville High School, she was a full-time wife and mother until her daughters were in their teens and she accepted a part-time position at Westside Church of the Nazarene. This eventually led to being named Business Administrator where she stayed 30 years until retirement. This wonderful congregation became her second family. The church was her most favorite place to be. She was a 59-year member. As visitors left her bedside in her final days, she would call "I'll see you in Heaven!"

Visitation with family will begin at 9:30 am followed by a service at 11:00 am on Monday, December 15th, at Westside Church of the Nazarene, 8610 W. 10th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46234. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church earmarked "In memory of Doris Alexander". Arrangements entrusted to A.R.N. Funeral & Cremation Services.
