Doris Jean Housefield,
79 of Carmel, IN. passed away April 25, 2012. She was a lifelong resident of Florida. Doris was born in Lakeland, Florida on November 5, 1932 to Palmer and Ruby (Bulger) Cottingham. After graduating from Lakeland High School in 1951, Doris managed City Ticket offices for Eastern Airlines and Continental Airlines.
She resided in Lakeland, Sarasota, and Tampa, Florida and was a member of Idle Wild Baptist Church in Tampa. She was very active in the OMEGIN Bible class. Doris had such a strong faith and was always willing to witness to others who were experiencing tough times or adversity. Her smile could light up a room. In January, she and Bill moved to Carmel to be closer to their children and grandchildren. She recently spent the same weekend with all her grandchildren and Addie, her only Great Grandchild. A few hours before her death, she was singing Happy Birthday to Erin, her oldest Grandchild.
Doris is survived by her loving husband, Bill Housefield, Sr.; sons, Bill Jr. (Mary) and Scott (Catherine); grandchildren, Erin, Melissa, Ryan, Stephanie, Allison, Chloe, Farrah, and Julien; great grandchild, Addison; and sister, Linda (Steve) Stevens. Mary Jo Cottingham, her sister in law, and Cindy Housefield her former daughter in law. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who brought such joy and love to her life. Lisa Lawrence (Cottingham) spoke with her daily, as did one of her best friends Pat Dolven. Linda Lee Crowe (Housefield) was a special niece who watched over her for years in Florida before Doris moved to IN.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Charity of your choice in loving memory of Doris. Plans are being made for a memorial service during the second week of June. Please check back on this website. Please feel free to share memories, thoughts and prayers.
