Doris Helen (Young) Kleckner,
93, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016 in Brookdale at Willow Lake in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born in Britt, Iowa and grew up in Culver, Indiana graduating from Culver High School. After high school, she moved to Pasadena, California and worked for a contractor there during WWII. She returned to Indiana after the war and married Samuel H. Kleckner on November 24, 1946 and they were married for 62 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel; parents, Isa and Harry Young; sister, Betty Cowen; and brothers, Robert and Harry Young.
Doris worked as a secretary at the State Exchange Bank in Culver, IN. After marrying, she and her husband moved to Mishawaka, IN, where they raised their eight children.
After raising their children, Doris returned to work as a secretary at the ROTC office at the University Of Notre Dame. She was an extremely fast typist and could play the piano by ear. She belonged to the 100-Mile Swim Club at the YMCA. Doris loved gardening, canning fruits and vegetables and baking, but what made her the happiest of all was spending time with her family. She and Sam often took trips to visit their children all over the country.
She is survived by her children, Carole Jean Kisner of Westfield, IN, Martin Kleckner of Westfield, IN, Joyce Gatto of Deerfield, IL, William (Kathleen) Kleckner, MD of Indianapolis, IN, Bonita (Jerry) Kowalinski of Mishawaka, IN, Beverly (Dean) Kleckner-Thiele of Ramsey, MN, Katherine Kleckner of St. Paul, MN and Kevin (Dawn Underwood) Kleckner of Tucson, AZ; 11 grandchildren, Jayne Kendall, MD and James Kisner, Jonathan and Christopher Gatto, Andrew, Kathleen and Christopher Kleckner, Allison and Melissa Kowalinski, and Joseph Kleckner and Annie Kleckner-Thiele; and 4 great-grandchildren, Claire and Jack Kendall and James and Justin Kisner.
There will be a burial and private graveside ceremony at Summit Chapel in Bourbon, IN.
