Dorothy Elaine Kirkeeide, (née Peterson) passed away peacefully on January 11, 2018 at the age of 88 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is survived by sons Allan (Deb A.) Kirkeeide; Kim Kirkeeide; daughter Star Kirkeeide (John); daughter-in-law Mary Kirkeeide; Grandchildren Matthew and Kelly (Larry ); Krista and Katie (Pat); Jesse (Meagan) and Jenny (Chris) and great grandchildren Christian, Payten, Joel and Amaya; Charlotte, Jameson and Declan; and Eva. She is preceded in death by her husband Harold, and son, David.
Dorothy was born in Two Harbors, Minnesota and was raised in Northeast Minneapolis. It was here that she met, fell in love and married the boy who lived across the street, Harold "Kirk" Kirkeeide. They married on December 12, 1947 and were blessed by a 70 year romance that surpassed some of the greatest love stories ever written. After many years traveling and residing in Minnesota, they moved to Spring Hill, Florida where they were active in the RV Club, Nativity Lutheran Church and the Timber Pines Community.
Dorothy was a combination of warmth, kindness, laughter, and love. She had a smile that could light up a room. She was a lover of sequins, pink lipstick and finding a bargain at the flea market. Dorothy enjoyed entertaining, decorating and gardening. She won many ribbons and awards from the local Garden Club and entries submitted to Minnesota State Fair. She was an excellent cook and was known for her popovers with honey butter, Swedish Kringla, and her "Spaghett". She was a mentor to many girls during her years as a 4H and Camp Fire Girl leader. Most of all, she was the best wife, mother and grandmother you could ask for and will be terribly missed.
It is only fitting that Dorothy will be buried with her husband at the Minnesota Fort Snelling National Cemetery later this spring. The family would appreciate donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Dorothy's honor.
