It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Praveen Narain Mathur. He is survived by his loving wife, Pratima Mathur; children, Anubhav Mathur (Jennie Mathur) and Anita Mathur Nguyen (Tung Nguyen); and cherished grandchildren, Ashni, Aradhya and Anay.
Dr. Mathur was a Distinguished Professor (Professor Emeritus) at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He was a renowned chest physician, researcher, and educator, who led pioneering advances in detecting and treating early stage lung cancers. Dr. Mathur was an internationally recognized leader and sought-after lecturer on topics pertaining to interventional pulmonary medicine, having authored over a hundred peer-reviewed medical and scientific papers, eight text books, and numerous book chapters.
Dr. Mathur was born in Paris, France. He graduated from Daly College and GR Medical College in India. He completed his medical training at the University of Western Ontario and McMaster University in Ontario, Canada before joining the faculty at the IU School of Medicine in 1981.
Despite his many accomplishments, he cherished his family, colleagues, and friends most of all. He was a loving husband of nearly 43 years, caring father and doting grandfather to three wonderful grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling around the world, reading Phantom comic books, and spending time with those he loved.
Relatives and friends are invited Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 2 PM to A.R.N. Funeral & Cremation Services, 11411 N. Michigan Rd., Zionsville, IN 46077, where funeral services will begin at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in memory of Praveen Mathur to: Hindu Temple of Central Indiana, American Thoracic Society, or American College of Chest Physicians.
