Edith S. Phillips

June 30, 1932 — September 11, 2016

Edith Snyder Phillips, a former resident of Shelbyville, Indiana, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016, in Noblesville, Indiana. She was 84 years old and proud of each year. Born June 30, 1932, to Delores Carroll Snyder and Ariel B. Snyder, Edith graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1950. She married David D. Phillips, a career officer in the U.S. Army, and they enjoyed his service years traveling, living abroad and parenting their three children. They returned to Shelbyville in 1969, where Edith worked for Dr. Wilson Dalton several years before moving to Indianapolis. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.).

Edith's passions were music and bridge. Her favorite instruments were piano, accordion and her beautiful voice. She participated in and performed with various choir and choral groups throughout her adult life. She was a Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League, one of her proudest accomplishments, and was a regular participant at the Indianapolis Bridge Center until her declining health interfered.

Edith is survived by her daughters, Sharon Phillips Miller (Paul Felix Miller III), of Shelbyville, and Leslie Phillips Rex (Dr. Douglas Rex) of Fishers; grandchildren Rebecca Keith Sullivan (Cory), Phillip Keith, Patrick Keith, all of Shelby County; Lindsay Van Natta Johnson (Adam), of Tampa, Florida, Megan E. Van Natta (Andrew Diefendorf), of Carmel, Russell Van Natta (Tiffany), of Anderson, and Kevin Rex, of Fishers; step-grandchildren Emilie Rex, of Richmond, Virginia, Grace Rex, of New York City and Christina Pierce and David Pierce, children of Bambie L. Phillips, all of Shelby County. She is also survived by ten Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Snyder Marshall, and her beloved son, Michael D. Phillips.

The family will have a private celebration of Edith's life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Girls Inc. of Shelbyville. Friends may leave a memory or message of condolence by visiting www.arnmortuary.com.
