Edna Marcella “Marsh-mellow” Skiles (Raymann), 97, passed away peacefully in her home on February 11, 2023.
She was born July 30, 1925, in Washington, Indiana, to Edward W. and Lillie M. Raymann. The youngest of ten children, she was raised on the family’s farm in Washington, Indiana. She attended Washington Catholic High School.
An adventuresome soul, Edna enjoyed roller skating; using a needle, ice cube, and Sharpie to pierce ears; and dancing the jitterbug with her sister Mary Elizabeth “Betty”. It is rumored that the pair won a jitterbug competition in their early years. Prior to retiring from her time at Standard Grocery, Edna served many patrons of the Turf Club, B&B, Varsity Bar and Embers Steakhouse.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 9 siblings; and great-granddaughter, Marlie Barnhart.
Survivors include three daughters, Tami (Danny) Cloud, Sundra Swails and Diane Carson; grandchildren, Rachel Barnhart, Jessica Haines, Greg Breedlove and Shelley Breedlove Parrott; and great-grandchild, Callihan Barnhart. Countless others considered her a mother, grandmother and to so many, she was simply known as “GG.”
Edna is remembered as someone who accepted all, judged none, and was always there to greet you from the front porch swing. In her own words, dated February 14, 1940, “Remember the future, remember the past, remember the boy who kissed you last.”
Please join family and friends in a toast to a life well-lived. Per Edna’s wishes, there will be no services and loved ones are encouraged to remember her in their own time and way. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Edna’s name to Danville FFA Alumni, 4055 N SR 39, Danville, IN 46122.
