Good men must die, but death cannot kill their names.” – Unknown

The world has lost a truly good man, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, mentor to many, respected in his career and in his personal life. Edward S. Chandler, December 8, 1953 – July 20, 2024 has left this mortal life but his soul has gone on to be with others who have preceded him, his mother and father, Art and Phyllis Chandler, his father-in-law Nelson Cohen, grandparents, aunts and uncles and numerous fur babies that are waiting for him at the Rainbow bridge.

Ed was genuinely a family man; engaging in his children’s lives, coaching basketball, and supporting the Lawrence Township girls’ basketball league as a Director. He was involved in the Lawrence North football parents club and could often be seen in the concession stand at games asking students to name the state capital of Montana before he would sell them the refreshment they requested. During wrestling season, Saturday mornings would find him up early to drive to a daylong wrestling meet, whether it was local or in northern Indiana. His children made him so proud and he loved them fiercely.

Ed was a graduate of Pike High School, Indiana University Kelly School of Business with a degree in Finance and a Master In Business Administration from Butler University. Ed was a commercial real estate broker and a member of the Real Estate Appraisers Institute. He was involved in brokering many commercial and residential properties in Indianapolis and the state of Indiana and appraising many more. He loved the challenges of his career and wanted to provide the best ‘deal’ for his customers.

Ed could often be seen riding his bicycle on the backroads of Indiana with his wife, Gail, and friends. His bicycle travels took him to the California wine country, Pennsylvania, Tuscany, Nova Scotia, Vermont, Glacier National Park, and Maine. He was also an avid runner until his knees could no longer endure the sport.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Gail, daughter Rachel, son David and his wife Sarah, and two grandsons, Oliver and Henry, who were the joy of his life. He is also survived by his brothers Andrew (Gwen) and Rick (Sharon), sister Sara (Mark) Stevens, mother-in-law Sunya Cohen, brother-in-law Marty Cohen (Marilyn), aunt and uncle Monte and Marianne Shields, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews and their children.
