Edward C. Grande, Jr.,
84, a lifelong Indianapolis resident died on August 17, 2015. He was a devoted husband for 47 years to Patricia, d. 2008, and a loving father of Stephen and Marjorie. Ed is survived by Steve and daughter-in-law Pam of Muskego, WI, Marjorie of Northfield, MN, sister-in-law Elaine Qualley, and brother-in-law the Reverend George Qualley. He loved his family, his friends, and his country. He will be missed.
He died as he wished, peacefully, at home with family at his bedside. A lifelong animal lover, his grand-puppy, Allie, was at his side as he passed. The family thanks the staff at IU North and the IU Health Home Hospice team for their compassion.
Ed's kind and mild manner belied his adventurous spirit. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1952 and was an officer in the U.S. Air Force during and after the Korean Conflict. He spent several years in Canada working for a uranium mine, motorcycling, hiking, camping, and fishing before returning to the U.S. and his family business, Edward C. Grande, Inc., the wholesale nursery business from which he retired in 1984. In retirement, he rekindled his love of motorcycling. With friends and solo, he rode through 48 states and many of the national parks. He traveled the world with his wife and family; they enjoyed many remarkable adventures.
Ed wished to be cremated and his ashes scattered with his wife Pat's ashes in the woods near Indianapolis. As he wished, there will be no services. Should you desire, please make a contribution to the Humane Society of Indianapolis.
Arrangements entrusted to ARN Cremation Services.
