EDWINA NADINE BOHANNON-KING
of Indianapolis, IN
After living an abundant life, at the precious age of 93, she went home to be with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 31, 2015. She was the oldest daughter born to John L. and Lenora (McGee) Bohannon on December 6, 1922 in Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Bohannon and Carolyn Jean Bohannon.
Edwina was a proud graduate of the 1940 class of Crispus Attucks High School. Edwina's love of music opened a door for a college scholarship, however as a young woman, she married Harold I. Harris who preceded her in death. Together they birthed all six of her beautiful children.
She is survived by her children, Irwin J. Harris, "the twins": Michael W. Harris and Miriam F. Harris, Alice J. (Harris) Jones and Charie L. Harris; eight grandchildren, Mark Harris, Dominiquie L. Harris, Garth Hendrix, Paula J. (Bollen) Strout, Michael L. Harris Jr., Michael I. Harris, John C. Harris and Brandon Q. Harris; ten great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Edwina was preceded in death by her daughter, Nora E. Harris.
Edwina continued her musical education at Butler University. She worked for the IRS, Indiana State Senator Birch Bayh and at Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance Center. Edwina was kindhearted and always admired for her classic elegant style and loving devotion to her family, friends and church. She was a long standing member of Christ Temple, in her later years she resided under the ministry of Bishop Byron Johnson at Christ Church.
Her Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 12 noon at Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Rd. Memorial contributions may be made to The Worship Assembly of Indianapolis, 2131 E. 54th St., Indianapolis, IN 46220.
