Dr Elise Sophia Heslin, 44, passed away February 7, 2012. Elise was born November 8, 1967 in Springfield, Ohio. Her family later moved to the Fort Wayne, IN area, where she graduated from Bishop Dwenger High School. She received a BS in Biology from Indiana University, where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. Elise went on to earn her DDS from Indiana University School of Dentistry, and was a member of the American Orthodontic Society. She practiced dentistry until her retirement for full-time motherhood in 2003.
Elise was married to Dr. Bruce E. Heslin, a physician in Indianapolis. She was active in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and in the Meridian Street Foundation.
With the support of her family, her many friends, and her faith, Elise defied the odds to survive cancer for 2 1/2 years. She never lost her positive attitude, generosity, and sense of humor --- she reached out to support others who were struggling with the disease, and to educate medical professionals about cancer survivorship.
She is survived by her husband Bruce, their two sons Walter & Henry and her stepchildren George & Sasha; her parents Jacqueline & Bernard Pokrzywinski of New Haven, IN; and her four siblings Jennifer Murphy, Christopher Pokrzywinski, Jonathan Pokrzywinski, and Joshua Pokrzywinski. Aunt Elise will be fondly remembered by 11 loving nephews and 8 adoring nieces, including her godchildren Alex, Kate, Gabrielle, and Lucy.
Funeral mass will be held Saturday, February 11, at 3:00pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church at 5692 Central Avenue in Indianapolis.
