Evelyn May Mefford,
96, a long time resident of Muskegon, Michigan, passed away on July 17, 2013 in Zionsville, Indiana. She was born in Cheboygan, Michigan on May 2, 1917 to Gordon and Margaret Schall.
Evelyn graduated from Muskegon Beauty Academy on July 28, 1936.
She married Frederick Mefford on June 14, 1941 and in 1943 they went to Cocoa Beach, Florida where Frederick was stationed at the Naval Air Station and Evelyn ran the base beauty salon. After the war, they returned to raise their family and work in Muskegon.
Evelyn was strong, determined, smart and hard working. These qualities were instrumental in her success as a beautician. She practiced from 1936 until she was in her 80's. She and her husband owned and operated the Lakeshore Barber and Beauty Shop for 32 years.
Evelyn enjoyed having a good time with friends, dancing, country music, golf and especially traveling the world.
Evelyn was strong in her faith and attended Lakeside Methodist Church.
We will miss her and the warmth of her unconditional love, but know that she is with her dear husband, parents, sisters, brother and many friends.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Linda (Ted) Mills of Cupertino, CA and Richard (Susan) Mefford of Zionsville, IN; five grandchildren, Kristen and Jason Mills, and Nathan, Alan and Melissa Mefford; and her therapy dog, Tulip.
