It is with profound sadness and grief that the family of Evelyn A. Napariu announces that their beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother fell asleep in the Lord on May 10, 2018 surrounded by her beloved family.
Evelyn was born on June 28, 1930 to Anastasious and Danitsa Vudis with the given name of Evdokia Anastasious Vudis. She was the child of recent eastern European immigrants and was raised with her siblings in a family filled with love even with the trials of the Great Depression and World War II. She would often recall the stories her mother told her about life in the "old country."
She met and found her true love while she and John Napariu, Jr. were classmates at School No. 5 in Indianapolis. They married on June 2, 1957 and together built a life and a family. Together they owned and operated Hoosier Loan Company and Napariu Insurance Agency. Later in life, Evelyn began her own marketing specialties company, Evelyn's Specialties.
More importantly, John and Evelyn raised their four children in a lively and rambunctious household. Evelyn was the heart of the home, dispensing constant love and support to John and her children, mixed with her famous dry wit. She was involved in her children's activities and was once named Parent of the Year by the Lawrence Township Foundation.
Evelyn was a member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church but upon her marriage, she became and remained a long-time and much beloved member of Sts. Constantine & Elena Romanian Orthodox Church.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, John Napariu, Jr., her parents, her brother Phillip A. Vudis, her sisters, Olivia A. Vudis, and Leona A. (Vudis) James, and her nephew, Samuel P. Vudis.
She is survived by her children, John S. Napariu, Sr and his wife Amy; Michael D. Napariu and his wife Dianna; Olivia A. Napariu; and Brian S. Napariu; grandchildren John S. Napariu, Jr. and his wife Nyla; Joseph B. Napariu; Sonya E. Napariu; Anna L. Napariu and Samuel D. Napariu; and her brother John A. Vudis and his wife Carol; and beloved nieces and nephews. Evelyn is also blessed to be survived by her great-granddaughter Evelyn Aileen Napariu and was awaiting the birth of her second great-grandchild.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, May 14, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sts. Constantine & Elena Romanian Orthodox Church located at 3237 West 16th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46222. The Slujba Saracustei (Service of the Wake) will be held at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral service will take place the following day, May 15, 2018, beginning at 11 a.m. at Sts. Constantine & Elena Romanian Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. David Wey and Rev. Fr. Marko Bojovic officiating. Burial with graveside service shall take place immediately after the funeral at Washington Park Cemetery North.
Following burial, family and friends are invited to gather for the Meal of Mercy which will be served at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church located at 7855 Marsh Road, Indianapolis, IN 46278.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Sts. Constantine & Elena Romanian Orthodox Church or St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Evelyn's memory.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Funeral Home, 11411 N. Michigan Rd., Zionsville, IN 46077
