Frances Congress Freed, 90, daughter of William and Mollie Congress, a community leader and beloved wife who was preceded in death by Robert Freed her loving husband of 65 years, passed peacefully on December 20, 2012. Fran lived a life reflecting love of faith, family, lifetime learning, music, theatre, and community.
She graduated high school as salutatorian at age 16, attended Fairmont State and graduated with a degree in journalism from West Virginia University in 1944. She became the editor of the "Fairmont West Virginia Times" during WWII, married the love of her life shortly after the war and settled in Kokomo, Indiana with him as owners of Palmer's Jewelry, Inc. She and Bob worked alongside one another in the store for five decades, while they raised five children.
Fran participated in the following organizations: Temple B'nai Israel (30 years as the bulletin editor), founding member of The American Association of University Women in Kokomo, Community Concert board member, Altrusa Club, Morning Musicale, Mother of Twins Club, Girl Scouts, Kokomo Country Club golf and bowling leagues, Temple B'nai Israel Sisterhood, National Sisterhood board member, Panel of American Women, PTA, AFS hostess, Hadassah local and state lifetime member, writer for "Indianapolis Jewish Post", and the Mayor's committee to build a new city hall.
She is survived by her loving family: children, Susan (Robert) Gadomski of Bethlehem, PA, Marilyn (Stan) Eisenstein of Highland Park, IL, Cheryl (Alan) Meisterman of Gahanna, OH, Mike (Jane) Freed of Westfield, IN, and Judy (Bob) Carter of Cincinnati, OH; thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Larry Congress; and sister-in-laws, Betty Congress, Bernice Fidelholtz, and Bettie Glaser.
Three weeks ago, she hosted her ninetieth birthday party. She presented a dramatic reading of "Flying Frances", the story of her being picked up by the wind at age five. Now she is flying with her beloved, Bob. They both remain "the best ever". Her love will last with family and friends forever.

A private graveside service will be held in Congregation Beth-El Zedeck North Cemetery. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
