Frank C. Meine, 85, of Carmel was born May 17, 1929 in Chicago, IL to Franklin and Helen Meine. He graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1951. He was the top graduate of his ROTC class. He married Mary Yeager of Anniston, AL on April 20, 1957. They were blessed with their only daughter, Theresa, several years later while living in Arlington, VA.
He served in Korea and Japan; taught at the Chemical Core School at Fort McClellan and then graduated top of the Advanced Class there; attended the Naval War College in Newport, RI; and served in Vietnam. He was awarded three Bronze Service Stars. After 22 years of active service, he retired with the rank of Colonel.
In 1991, Frank and Mary moved to Indiana to be closer to Theresa and their only granddaughter, Elizabeth. His neighbors selected him for the Friendliest Neighbor award several years in a row, and subsequently retired the award because he would always be the winner. He celebrated his 57th wedding anniversary on April 20th and his 85th birthday on May 17th. He passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Saturday, May 31st.
Frank is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Theresa Cantwell; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Cantwell.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on June 7 at Carmel Friends Church at 651 West Main Street, Carmel. Memorial contributions may be made to Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (honor.billygraham.org) in honor of Frank Meine.
