Franz K. Piller, 82, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away May 1, 2015. He was born in South Bend, IN, the youngest of seven and only son of Anthony and Julia Piller, on January 19, 1933.
Franz served honorably in the Air Force doing background checks on the scientists for the U.S. atomic testing program. After his military service, he attended the Indiana University School of Business. He was graduated magna cum laude, earning a Bachelor of Science degree.
After beginning his career at companies such as Studebaker and RCA, Franz worked for many years as a purchasing agent for Reilly Industries. He was an avid bowler and a golfer. He loved attending sporting events, such as Pacers games, and never missed the Indy 500. Franz enjoyed a good cigar, a good meal, and listening to classical music, particularly opera. He liked playing poker and pinochle, solving crossword puzzles, and reading and watching mysteries, sci-fi and crime dramas. He had a great sense of humor and could add laughter to any conversation.
Franz and his wife Dolores lived all their lives in Indiana. They raised their family in Bloomington, Columbus, and then for over 40 years in the Ben Davis area of Indianapolis. They were longtime members of St. Joseph Church.
Franz was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dolores. He is survived by his three children, Debbie Collins, David Piller, and Michael Piller; and two grandchildren, Brenna and Anderson.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on August 12, 2015, at St. Joseph Church in Indianapolis.
