Gayathri Vasudevamurthy, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born October 19, 1946, in Karnataka, India, she grew up with six siblings and was close to her extended family. Gayathri earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, a testament to her commitment to personal growth and learning. In addition to her educational pursuits, Gayathri was trained as a vocalist in Carnatic classical music and spoke four languages. Her level of artistry translated to food and botany, as she was well-known for her impeccable culinary skills and her green thumb. On the playful side, her sneaky sense of humor was most often seen while spending time with her siblings, children, and grandchildren. Most importantly, Gayathri will ultimately be remembered for her kindness and compassion.
Gayathri's legacy of love and family will live on through her children and grandchildren. Her selflessness strengthened her community, as she was always seen as a reliable and trustworthy friend. Her dedication to South Indian culture through her involvement with the Hindu Temple of Central Indiana and Carnatic Music Society helped weave a tapestry of Hindu culture in Indianapolis.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Kolala Vasudevamurthy, her devoted children, Maya (Casey) and Ashwin (Anisha), and her grandchildren, Kalika, Rama, Nakul and Krishna. Gayathri's nurturing spirit and generous heart touched the lives of all who knew her. Her memory will be a guiding light.
A Prayer Service in honor of Gayathri will be held on January 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM, followed by the conclusion of services at 12:00 PM. The service will take place at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary, located at 11411 N Michigan Rd, Zionsville, Indiana 46077. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hindu Temple of Central Indiana.
Kolala, Maya, and Ashwin would like to extend their gratitude toward the medical teams that took care of Gayathri, including Dr. Ruemu Birhiray and the entire staff at Hematology Oncology of Indiana, the St. Vincent Hospital Hospitalist Service and Oncology nurses, the Paradigm Hospice program, and We empower home health services.
