George Raymond Leslie of Tarpon Springs, Florida (formerly of Zionsville, IN) died October 6, 2022, at the age of 72 years of lung cancer.
George was born January 25, 1950, in Warsaw, Indiana. H e attended Claypool Elementary and Middle School in Claypool, IN and graduated from Warsaw High School in Warsaw, IN. George graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN and got his Masters from CW Post, Long Island University.
George had the pleasure of working with many great people throughout his teaching career in the United States Military Academy at West Point; Camelback High School in Phoenix, AZ; and Southridge High School in Huntingburg, IN all related to physical education, coaching basketball and swimming, and counseling.
He eventually moved on to a long-term insurance career which included Farm Bureau, Minnesota Mutual, and State Life, to name a few. He actively continued his career as an independent agent until his death.
Upon his semi-retirement, he and his wife Maggie enjoyed a year and a half on the road touring the United States in an RV. They landed in Tarpon Springs, FL, where they fell in love with the community and planned to spend the rest of their lives.
He especially enjoyed IU basketball, the Indianapolis Colts, golf, gardening, music, spending time with his family, cooking, and eating great food.
Family, friends, and church were the most important part of George's life. He treasured long-standing relationships and was a friend to everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie Leslie, Tarpon Springs, FL; and his daughters, Arah Leslie, Mill Valley, CA (fiancé, Forrest Engelman; sons Urban and Dawes), Madeline Leslie-Cheek, Charlotte, NC (husband, Elliot Cheek; daughter, Brooke) and Katherine Leslie-Kurdziolek, Charlotte, NC (husband, Kris Kurdziolek).
Funeral services will be held at Zionsville Presbyterian Church, 4775 W. 116th St., Zionsville, IN on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be held privately at Graceland Cemetery in Claypool, IN.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Zionsville Great Banquet (a spiritual retreat he and his family participated in, were involved in and loved).
