George Thomas Moore
1932 - 2015
Brother Tom Moore was freed from his earthly bonds and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Saturday, March 14, 2015. He had been in declining health for the past 5 years following a stroke.

Tom was born in Richmond, Indiana on February 11, 1932 to George Harrison Moore and Gertrude Ruth Toney Moore, the third youngest of 17 children. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1949 and entered military service with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, serving in Germany. He was awarded the Army Occupation Medal.

He worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad for 12 years until he took a job with the Greens Fork Post Office as a rural carrier. He retired from the Post Office in 1992 after 30 years of service. He was also the pastor of the Blountsville Church of the Nazarene for 25 years.

He lived a life of service to his God, church, family and community, always ready to provide a helping hand, a meal, a ride, an encouraging word to those he met who needed it. He is fondly remembered for playing Santa Claus at community holiday parties and would call each child who sat on his lap by name. Afterwards, they would ask how he knew their name, and parents would say, "Because he's Santa Claus!"

Tom is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Ann Hall Moore; 3 children, Mary Lotz of Indianapolis, George "Frank" Moore (wife, Jane) of Greens Fork, Cynthia Walton (husband, Mark) of Ormond Beach, Florida; one remaining sister, Rachel Camden; his "favorite" sister-in-law, Sue Miller Hertel (husband, Dale); brother-in-law, John J. Hall; 8 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and dozens of nieces and nephews. His children and grandchildren looked to him for strength and guidance through God's word, and he was a lifelong Bible scholar.

A Celebration of Life for Tom Moore will be held on Saturday, March 21 at 2pm at the Greens Fork Community Center. Remembrance cards will be available to write down a favorite memory of Tom or a way he touched a life.

"Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children and the younger generation. For they are us, our bodies are only wilted leaves on the tree of life." -Albert Einstein
