Gloria Ann (Thompson) Wincek

A short, condensed biography of Gloria Ann Thompson Wincek, in her own words.

I was born in Roosevelt, Long Island, New York, March 15, 1933. My parents were Thomas Weyman Thompson and Aurea Le Gault Thompson. My parents met in New York where my father was stationed at Mitchell field Army Air Corp base, served 32 years. My mother was born in Montreal, Canada and my father was born in Cordele, Georgia.

I grew up in many different places but most of my schooling was in Orlando, Florida at St. James Catholic School.  Memorial Junior High and graduated Orlando Senior High. I would have to say my High School years were the best, no worries, just friends, fun and memories. Now I am but a memory.

I was active in the Orlando’s Public Relations handled by the Chamber of Commerce ad Citrus Growers Association.  Modeled for Newsreels, newspapers and represented city, county, and state in Beaty Contests all over the State of Florida. Enjoyed choir and theatrical parts in school. I considered myself popular in school and enjoyed many parties, dances, sorority life, house parties at Daytona Beach. It was an era of “no problems.”  Boys, cars, and money. I attended the University of Florida and my days there were eventful, I had a BALL.

I moved to El Paso, Texas, my parents were at Biggs Air Force Base. Met John D. Wincek Jr. (Stationed at Biggs AFB), married 1953, divorced in Pennsylvania 1987. Our three children were born in Massillon, Ohio. Patti Lyn Wincek Seaton now of Orlando, Florida, Malynda Lee Wincek Owen, now of Amherst, Ohio, and John Donald Wincek III, now of Indianapolis, IN.

Six wonderful grandchildren: Bradley Ross Seaton, Kyle Nelson Bockey, a West Point graduate, Heather Lee Chandler, Madilyn Paige Wincek, Jonathan Donald Wincek, and William Johnson Wincek and six great grandchildren: RJ Chandler, Maire Bockey, Chase Chandler, Liam Bockey, Aiden Bockey, and Garrett Seaton.

As I was the only child in my family, my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren are a wonderful extension of my parents and myself. I am so immensely proud of all of them. I wish I could have kept our family together.

I really do appreciate the company I worked for these last years. As I was not a “spring chicken” when they hired me, my first full time job other than being a wife and mother.  Glas-Craft, Inc. in Indianapolis, Indiana. Thanks to all the people who worked there and ere my adopted KIDS.

If I could have changed my life, there are a few things I would have done differently, wouldn’t we all? But the main thing I would not change is my loving family and the wonderful friends that I maintained over the many years.

To those of you who read this, I wish you joy and remember the one who always love you no matter what…. Our Maker, GOD! If it had not been for my belief in Jesus, St. Jude, Blessed Mother Mary and my poor Guardian Angle, who had to have cried over the things I have done in my lifetime, probably blushed a lot too.  Lord, Please Grant us all Peace.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 20th at St. Jude Catholic Church, 5353 McFarland Road, Indianapolis, IN 46227 at 10 AM with Fr. Didier presiding.
