Gretchen Mary (Grosdidier) Williams, 86, of Zionsville, passed away August 17, 2024 surrounded by family. She was born in Indianapolis to the late Herbert Andrew and Loretta Cecelia Grosdidier on August 29, 1937.
After graduating from St. Patrick’s school and then St. Agnes Academy, Gretchen went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Marion College. She spent most of her career working at Safeco, formerly American States Insurance, where she rose to the position of Assistant Vice President.
Gretchen enjoyed travel and was able to see many foreign countries and most of the United States. She participated in dance groups including Dans Ethnik and die Fliedermauschen Tanzgruppe. Gretchen was also a member of Sweet Adelines’ Capital City Chorus. She was a Girl Scout Leader and Cookie Chairmen for several years.
Gretchen is survived by her beloved children; Lynne V. (Vicki) Williams, Beth E. (Mindi) Williams, Jill P. (Tricia) Williams Maksym (husband Tom), and Kathleen (Kathi) Williams Chase, M.D. (husband Michael). Survivors also include her six grandchildren; Josy and Ben Williams, Miranda and Darius Maksym, and Isabella and Collin Chase, as well as her only sister, Carol Grosdidier Campbell.
She is preceded in passing by her parents, ex-husband, two nieces, and one great-nephew.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 10AM-11AM with a Funeral Mass to begin at 11AM all held at St. Alphonsus Liguori Roman Catholic Church, 1870 West Oak Street, Zionsville, IN 46077. Donations in her memory may be sent to Little Sisters of the Poor, The Nature Conservancy, or Covenant House.
