Hafeeza Elizabeth Omar

Hafeeza Elizabeth Omar, 81, Cleveland Ohio passed away April 25, 2013. Hafeeza was born Elizabeth Snead on June 17, 1931 in Birmingham, Alabama to Annie Bell Raines and James Snead.

Hafeeza Elizabeth Omar married Carl Smith and had four children: Valerie Smith-Gamble, Ronald Smith (deceased), Trina Smith (deceased), and Karen Smith. She then married Eural Pyburn. They have a son, Daryl Pyburn. In the seventies, she met the love of her life, William Lowe. The couple later changed their names to Hafeeza Elizabeth Omar and Asmar Omar, respectively.

During the eighties, Hafeeza E Omar was the Rosalind Ave Street Club President and later became a dedicated civil servant and Vice President of Council for the city of East Cleveland for 14 years. She worked tirelessly with citizens, city council members and politicians both locally and nationally to promote political leadership in the city of East Cleveland.

In the seventies, Hafeeza E Omar was awarded Business Woman of the Year with the city of Cleveland for developing and implementing an after school program for the inner city youths of Cleveland. Her interest in educating African American youths led to the development of College Book Fund Scholarship Program for all college bound African American youths who participated in her after school work program. This College Book Scholarship was funded by the Wade Park Manor.

Hafeeza Elizabeth Omar was a very proud and determined woman who was a ray of sunshine to everyone. Hafeeza Elizabeth Omar leaves to cherish her memory her son, Daryl Pyburn; two daughters, Karen Smith and Valerie Smith-Gamble; grandchildren, Monica-Kay Gamble, Landon Gamble, Samantha Smith, Alexandra Smith, Cameron Smith, ChaRon Smith, Chanel Pyburn, and Allice Gholson; great grandchild, Seneca Smith; sister, Mary Rice; nieces; nephews; and many loving relatives and friends.
