Haralds Kirhners,
84, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at home on August 9, 2022. He was born in Tadaiku pagasts (Liepaja), Latvia on April 6, 1938 to the late Aleksandrs and Katrina. Haralds grew up on a small family farm near Kuldiga, Latvia, and was dedicated to helping his parents to care for it.
He attended college, maintained airplanes during his military service years, and worked for more than thirty years at the transportation and logistical services company in Jelgava, Latvia ("Jelgavas Auto Kombinats") with various responsibilities, including overseeing technical and building services. Haralds enjoyed woodworking, building fireplaces, fixing up cars, hunting, fishing, reading, and the company of the family pets. After retiring, Haralds and his wife Velta moved to the United States to be with their daughter and grandson. Haralds was active in the Indianapolis Latvian community.
Haralds is survived by his wife, Velta Kirhnere; daughter, Guna Kirhnere (David) Rogers; grandson, Alex (Katelyn) Skudrovskis; great-granddaughter, Ava Skudrovskis; and sister, Dzintra Ukstina.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 19, 2022 at Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Road, Zionsville, IN 46077 at 10 AM with a memorial service at 11 AM. The family will host friends for a meal immediately following the service.
