Helen Rand Lenke
A generous, warm and wonderful woman who was adored by her many friends and relatives for 96 years, passed peacefully on Wednesday, November 4th, 2015.

Helen was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Dr. Sidney Edward Lenke; parents, Leroy and Sarah Rand; brother, Edward Rand; sister, Marjorie Lewis; beloved son-in-law, James Gordon Taft; and adored nephew, Dr. Michael Lowe Lenke.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Fox of Washington, D.C., Judith Taft (Ron Hollander) of Rocky Point, NY, Dr. Roger Lenke (Joanne) of Carmel, IN; and nephew, Robert Lewis (Janet) of Stony Creek, CT, who she counted as a son; six grandchildren, Brian, Laura and Jacqueline Fox, Peter and James Taft, and Michael Lenke; will miss her boundless affection. She delighted in the company of her eight great-grandchildren.

Helen was a 1940 graduate of Hofstra University. She loved her beautiful homes in Brooklyn, NY,; Great Neck, NY; Westport, CT and Indianapolis, IN. Her idyllic summers throughout her childhood and her children's childhoods were spent on the Connecticut shoreline in Stony Creek, CT. Helen had a rapier-sharp wit, a wry sense of humor and many talents, including painting, music and entertaining with grace, style and warmth. Many an evening ended with a gathering around her 1938 Steinway while she played songs from the Great American Song Book by ear.

The family is thankful for the kind and loving attention given by her caregiver, Jody Fritch for the last eight years, her friends and staff at the Forum at the Crossing and, most recently, her new friends at the Barrington of Carmel.

Helen was a member of Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation. Donations in Helen's name may be made to IHC, 6501 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis ,IN 46260, or a charity of one's choice.
Private graveside services will be held at Mount Neboh Cemetery in Flushing, NY on Monday, November 9, 11:00 AM.
