Hema Harivadan Bhatt was born on August 5th, 1937 in the holy village of Dakor located in the state of Gujarat in India. Her mother’s name was Dahiben Joshi and her father’s name was Dr. Dasharathlal Joshi. After completing her secondary education in the village of Umreth, for further studies she moved to Vallabh Vidyanagar. Cultivation of Vedanta philosophy’s principles and values by her parents empowered her to pursue dual master degrees in Education and Sanskrit language.
After marrying Harivadan Bhatt on February 24th, 1959 she settled in Ahmedabad and became mother of three daughters - Nirali, Viral, and Dharati. She served in Gujarat state’s education department as an officer for a long time. During her tenure she made remarkable contributions towards women empowerment, Sanskrit language, and Sanskrit academies. After retiring, she moved to the United States in the year of 1998 to stay with her youngest daughter Dharati Chetan Dave and family. She passed away on January 9th, 2023.
She was a pious soul with remarkable religious and spiritual knowledge. She was always willing to share her knowledge and participate in spiritual activities. During her career and life she came across many Swami’s and leading scholars with them she created special place in their heart with her devotion.
Hema Bhatt is survived by her daughters - Nirali, Viral, and Dharati, her son-in-laws Abhijit, Gaurang, and Chetan, her grandchildren - Yash, Atmana, Janaki, Nrushad, Kavira, Shivam, and Nandaj, and her sisters - Saroj, Harshada, Indu, Raksha, Rutulata, and her brother Dinesh Joshi.
Services will be held Thursday, January 12th at Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Road, Zionsville, IN 46077 at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hindu Temple of Central Indiana.
