Herbert W Darling

Herbert W Darling, 91, of Indianapolis, IN, passed peacefully on September 5, 2022.  He was born in Payne, OH, to Elver and Mildred Bachelor Darling. Herbert proudly served in the United States Army and then began his education.  He earned his Bachelor’s from Ohio Northern University in 1955 and a Master’s from the University of Notre Dame the following year.

Herbert held many jobs over the years.  He began his working years as a probation officer and later was a Juvenile Court Systems Referee.  He then went on to become the Executive Director of the Central Indiana Comprehensive Health Planning Agency.  Herbert spent the last 26 years of his professional career in Shreveport, LA as Executive Director of the Northern  Louisiana Comprehensive Health Planning Agency and Director of Human Resources for Willis-Knighton Health System. Upon retirement, he moved to Indianapolis, IN, and volunteered as a Docent at the Indiana State Museum.

The family would like to thank Marquette Senior Living Community staff for many years of assistance and Brookdale Hospice for their compassionate care.

Herbert is survived by his daughter, Kathryn (Stephen) Baeumel of Pompano Beach, FL; and sons, Michael (Penny) Darling and Jeff Darling (Mary, who preceded Herbert in death /Melinda) of Indianapolis, IN; and Thomas (Jeannie) Darling of Baton Rouge, LA; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Alice Ann Darling.

A memorial to celebrate Herbert’s life will be held at a later date.
