Hien Van Tran,
82, of Brownsburg, passed away Peacefully on November 29, 2023. He was born in Saigon, Vietnam on January 22, 1941, to the late Thanh Van Tran and Chanh Ho.
Hien was an honored graduate of Ky Thuat in Vietnam which earned him a scholarship to study abroad in the United States. Hien earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Indiana State University. His passion for education allowed him to teach other engineering students in Vietnam.
In 1976, he and his family left Saigon, Vietnam and resided in Terre Haute, IN with the sponsorship of Dr. Walter Weffenstette. He worked for Weber Inc. in Pelatine, Illinois in the design department for several years. In 1979 he landed his dream job with Allison Transmission. He earned many accolades through the years. He received a covenant award for designing a machine guard for an Ekman Drill. He retired form Allison Transmission after working thirty plus years to devote more of his time volunteering at An Lac Temple in Indianapolis.
Hien was known for his friendly smiles and passion to help and teach others. He loved going fishing, singing Karaoke, and visiting with family and friends. Although his visits were never long, they were always quality visits.
Hien is survived by his wife; Helen H. Bui, Ex-wife; Diep Dao Tran, his daughter Lan Campbell, son-in-law, Dave Campbell; 4 step-children; Tran Ngoc Thanh Long, Tran Thanh Van, Tran Ngoc Thanh Phong, Tran Ngoc Thanh Vu, ; 8 Grandchildren; Madelyn Campbell, Kenny Lam, Tina Lam, Tran Guynh Thu, Vi Tran, Tran Hoai Bao, Eric Tran, Ryan Tran, John Tran, Jason Tran, Tran Ngoc my Linh; Brothers and Sisters; Thoa Dao, Yen Chau, Phuoc and Nguyet Lam, Loc Dao and Hah Soly, Chau Dao and Kim Truong, Phuc Dao and Julie Dao, Several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Tai A. Tran.
Services will be held Tuesday, December 5th with Buddhist Ceremony beginning at 9:00am to 10:00am, visitation from 10:00am till 2:30pm at Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Rd. Burial will follow in Brownsburg Cemetery.
