Howard Baumann,
98, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2016. Born in Brooklyn, New York on July 27, 1918, he had recently returned to Indiana after 18 wonderful years of retirement at Laguna Woods Village, California.
He was a passionate and devoted member of Kiwanis International. From his charter membership at Indianapolis' Meridian Hills chapter, to Saddlebacks chapter in California, he served numerous leadership roles, creating and mentoring several successful initiatives.
A decorated Army Veteran, he was the recipient of two Purple Heart medals from his service in WWII.
Howard loved the game of Golf and enjoyed teaching its intricacies to others, as well as singing, reading and staying up to date on current news and world events. He was also a former member of Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Betty Rose (Marvel) Baumann, of Indianapolis; son, Randall Harmon (Dora) of Reelsville, IN; son, James Harmon (Gail) of California; daughter-in-law, Karen Johnson of Washington, IN; niece, June Frankel (Gerald), of Bexley, OH; nephew, Fred Robinson (Janet) of Woodstock, GA; as well as six grandchildren.
A private, family Celebration of Life was held on September 22, 2016. Memorial contributions may be made to Kiwanis International, or to the Florence Sylvester Senior Center in Laguna Woods, California.
