Ida Cohen Miller
101, long time resident of Indianapolis, passed away January 12, 2012.
Ida was born on January 28, 1910 in Russia to Harry and Dora Cohen; she was one of eight children.
She and her late husband of 52 years, Abe, owned and operated Miller's Restaurant, at Market and Capitol from 1940-1955. She was a member of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck, a life member of Hadassah, and National Council of Jewish Women and was a member of Hooverwood Guild and Beth-El Zedeck Sisterhood. Ida was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award by Hadassah; was a Purdue University Foundation Honoree and received special commendation by State of Israel. She was an accomplished knitter and needlework craftsperson and played bridge until the age of 97.
Ida is survived by her beloved daughters, Linda (Herb) Melrose and Rochelle(Edward) Cohen; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and her devoted friend and caregiver, Laila Ghaus.
Ida's daughter, Sharon Benson and her grandson, Marc Melrose, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 11:00am in Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Road. Burial will follow in Beth-El Zedeck North Cemetery. Family and friends will be gathering after the committal services in the Overlook Clubhouse where a memorial minion will be held.
