Ines Boccard Tipton

November 12, 1924 — March 8, 2025

Indianapolis

Ines Eliana Boccard Rodriguez Tipton, 100, of Indianapolis, formerly of Jasonville in Greene County, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was half Chilean, half Argentine, and 100% American.

Born in Valparaiso, Chile on November 12, 1924 to her Chilean artist mother and Argentine diplomat father, Ines was an excellent student fluent in four languages (Spanish, English, French, & German), was a star athlete, and had several lifelong friends whom she maintained and cultivated on annual visits to Chile along with her husband, children, and grandchildren.

In WWII, she met US Navy Lieutenant and Aviator Elden Tipton and couple were wed on July 20, 1945 at the Naval Air Station Chapel at Alameda, California. As a beautiful Navy wife and mother, Ines and her husband reared six children (Linda, John, Joe, Bonnie, Steve, & Bill) throughout their Navy career from California, Texas (2), Panama, Maryland, and Argentina. She has 13 grandchildren along numerous great grandchildren.

The entire Tipton family came together in Indianapolis in November to celebrate Mrs. Tipton’s 100th Birthday at which the family’s matriarch presided over with her usual elegance, charm, good humor, and effervescent smile. The mother of six and wife of 64 years, was preceded in death by her husband, Senator Elden C. Tipton, her son Stephen, and her parents, Adolfo Boccard and Ema Briones Rodriguez de Boccard.

Ines lived her life fearlessly, with purpose, passion, mischievous-but good natured humor, charity, unselfishness, gratitude, and love-especially love! ❤️

As the Tipton Family Matriarch, she will be greatly missed, but gratefully remembered. After private family ceremonies, Mrs. Tipton’s remains will be interred at the family’s mausoleum at Cementerio Generale in Santiago, Chile.
